Here's a little something to get you in the mood for the reunion.

KHJ's Robert W. Morgan and The Real Don Steele, both members of the Radio Hall of Fame, were two of those LA radio voices that sent me towards a career in radio. During the years that followed the start of "Boss Radio" in 1965, if you went to any crowded beach on a summer day in Southern California, you'd hear the majority of radios tuned into to the station that played "more music", had "20-20 news" and, most importantly, played the music that was the soundtrack to our high school lives.

In addition to the actual reunion. Two additional events have been planned for that weekend:

CHS FOOTBALL GAME

Friday, October 19
A reserved section for the alumni. Game time 7pm. $5. adults, $3 students.

The Tigers will be playing Colony High School. Chaffey fans now sit on the south side of the stadium. The reunion committee is asking any sports participants from our classes to wear their Letterman Jackets or Jerseys or the like. Also Past Pep Squad members to do the same.

CHS '68-'72 reunion picnic

Sunday October 21, 2007 at Chaffey High School North Quad (pool side) 11:30 to 3:30 pm. Bring your own lunch or you can purchase food from the brother and sister alumni team of Roy and Jennette VanderKallen. Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream will also be available.

Well, this is progressing along nicely. Just recieved the following e-mail:

Mike,

We are working on a reunion for next year oct 20,07 hoping to have it at Hofers Ranch - Classes 68-72. We have had only one meeting so far. We do have a live band set to play 60's 70's . I'm waiting to hear from Robin for our next meeting probably after the 1st of the year since we have the date and place. If you should see any members of your class or hear from anyone please pass this on. If you see Francis again tell him hi for me, and if you have any info for me go ahead and e-mail it to me. I will get back with you when i get more info.

Reunion

Shortly after the first post on this blog I was visiting the Chaffey High website and found the following notation on the reunion page for the Class of 1968:

We are Planning a reunion for the summer of 2007. This will be a joint effort with other class' 68 thru 72. The plans are just in the beginning stages Please contact Robin (Brookshire) Nicoles at my e-mail address or 909-740-9862. Goin' Back.....the first post

When I moved from Ontario to Long Beach in 1971, I, unfortunately, didn't look back much. At the time I felt that lots of teenage baggage could be cured with a break from all that had come before. The problem with that philosophy is that if you abandon the baggage you end up abandoning many important people in your life - people that shared critical moments in your formative years.

Over the last couple years I've "reconnected" with three of my best friends from high school. Not only did they take me back into their lives despite my years of not keeping in touch, we all seemed to "pick up where we left off" in spite of the years that had passed.

As we all gathered for the wedding of the son of Francis Vander Kallen, I got to spend some celebratory time with Francis and my other two friends Stu and Cam Heald. Spending time with these three guys and their wives made me think that as lame as I might have been during those clumsy high school years, I must have had the right radar to pick quality friends. These guys were quality guys and they still are quality guys. I love them all and regret all the time I let pass between then and now.

During the wedding reception, I was able to reconnect with two other great guys, Marc Steffler and Bob Coats, along with one of our football coaches, Coach Tom Graham, who directly was part of all our development as he helped us with the disciplines that sports requires, which translates into disciplines that we all have used in life.

Then, of course, there is the Vander Kallen family: 14 brothers and sisters all graduates of Chaffey High over a twenty year period. A great family.

We all talked about past high school reunions and how many times they missed the mark because friendships span a larger scope than just your year of graduation and how great it would be to have a reunion that spanned several years and included several graduation years.

This is where this blog comes in. The Internet is a great place for "connecting" and this blog will, hopefully, serve as a connection point for anyone that graduated from Chaffey between 1968 and 1970. The people I have notified of this blog via e-mail all are graduates between those years, but, I'm guessing we might be expanding those parameters a little if we can make this thing grow. I would like to see the net results of this blog to be an organizational gathering place for a "live" reunion of several graduation years at some point in the next couple years, depending on the response.

Feel free to "comment" or if you are interested in being a registered "poster" (and everyone is welcome) drop me an e-mail at mikeknac@aol.com and I'll give you access to the blog to post your own thoughts, memories or shout outs. Most importantly, pass this blogs web address on to ANYONE that graduated from Chaffey in the 60's or 70's.
